Welcome to The Mangroves are My Home, a new education program for children aged 3 to 5 years at Osprey House Environment Centre!
Mangroves are a common habitat along the coast and rivers of Moreton Bay. This dynamic learning program investigates the animals that live there and their role in the food chain.
In each 45-minute session your child will learn about life in the mangrove trees through story time, themed craft, and games. The program is on Fridays throughout the second school term, with each week focusing on a different animal from the food chain.
The sessions work independently so you can pick and choose which sessions best suit you. However, we encourage you to attend all sessions so that your child can learn about the entire mangrove food chain.
Tickets are free but bookings are essential. Bookings can be made at aumbrc.sales.ticketsearch.com/sales/salesevent/131407
Parent participation is welcome. You must remain onsite and supervise your children throughout the session.
Bring a water bottle, insect repellent and morning tea to enjoy after the session in our barbeque area.
See Events page for new
happenings at Osprey House
Come on down for a visit, sit and meditate on our amphitheatre or just wander around our boardwalk. Perhaps you would like to have a BBQ in our picnic area. It is all free to use. We just ask you put the rubbish in the bins provided.

World Migratory Bird Day is on the 13 May, 2024
Along their migration routes, birds actively seek out insects in fields, forests, wetlands, and various habitats during stopovers. The timing of their bird migration often coincides with peak insect abundance at stopover locations, supplying nourishment for birds to replenish their energy reserves before continuing their journey.
The loss and disturbance of insect populations along avian migration routes threaten bird survival and well-being. A scarcity of energy-rich insects can hinder bird migration, leading to weakened immune systems, reduced reproductive success, and increased mortality rates for both adult birds and their offspring. Birds play crucial roles in pollination and pest control, and a lack of insects disrupts these ecosystem functions. (Source: migratorybirdday.org)
